Chelsea finally win transfer race to conclude first Todd Boehly signing amid Thomas Tuchel rebuild
Chelsea have taken the next step in their rebuilding process, with Thomas Tuchel bringing in his first signing of the summer.
According to football.london, the Blues have agreed a deal with Southampton for goalkeeper Eddie Beach.
The 18-year-old shone this season on the south coast, helping the Saints win the Under-18 Premier League South division.
Beach appeared in 20 games for Southampton’s under-18 team across all competitions, conceding 31 goals.
football.london reports that numerous clubs were interested in signing the shot-stopper this summer, but Chelsea came out on top.
Beach’s final appearance in the 2021/22 U18 Premier League season came against the west Londoners, where he captained the Saints to a 5-2 victory over Ed Brand’s side.
Beach is a Wales Under-19 international with six caps to his name. He’s the first player to sign as part of Tuchel’s intended reconstruction this summer.
Speaking to football.london, the Blues boss said: “We are rebuilding, not improving the squad. We are rebuilding. This is always challenging, but we are up for the challenge.
“I don’t know where we are from day one. What I can promise is that I will be here – if I can promise that – I will be here with full energy and positive energy no matter what. We will still work for Chelsea, and I refuse to think of negative scenarios. We will be competitive, on which level we will see.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea is rumoured to be close to signing another goalkeeper this summer.
According to football.london, the Blues are keen to sign Chicago Fire goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina.
Real Madrid were also interested in the 18-year-old, but it appears that the Blues have won the race. Slonina has appeared 13 times in the MLS this season, with five clean sheets.
His performances have piqued the eye of Chelsea, who are now expected to sign the young American.
The Blues made a bid for the shot-stopper in February of this year, certain of a deal, but the fines imposed on previous owner Roman Abramovich complicated matters.
Slonina will almost certainly be loaned out next season in order to obtain more first-team experience.
The arrivals of Beach and Slonina could have an impact on Kepa Arrizabalaga’s future, with the Spaniard attracting interest abroad after falling out of favour with Tuchel.
