Modric at the time even came out and said openly that he wanted to make the switch to west London.
But Levy appeared reluctant to deal with Chelsea and rejected multiple offers for the midfielder.
The Croatia international ended up staying at Tottenham for one more season before joining Real Madrid the following summer.

Leicester have not indicated how much they would need for the 24-year-old, but the midfielder is currently estimated at between €50m-€70m (£43m-£60m) via the CIES Football Observatory.
The Foxes are particularly shrewd negotiators as they held out for £50m for Ben Chilwell, who went to Chelsea, and also machine-gunned in £80m for Harry Maguire as Manchester United smashed the transfer record for a center-half.
