Chelsea deliver official injury update progressing into Leicester City trip

Chelsea FC’s Romelu Lukaku and Marcos Alonso both returned to training on Monday ahead of Saturday’s Premier League match against Leicester City.

Lukaku has been sidelined since suffering an ankle injury in the Champions League match against Malmo last month, while Alonso missed the 1-1 draw with Burnley last time out due to an ankle injury as well.

The 28-year-old Belgian striker will now be hoping to impress Thomas Tuchel as the southwest London club prepares to travel to the King Power Stadium on Saturday lunchtime.

Chelsea FC posted a series of photos of Alonso and Lukaku in training action at Cobham on the club’s official website on Monday as the Blues began their preparations for the match against Brendan Rodgers’ men.

The Blues will be eager to get Lukaku back into their starting lineup as soon as possible after his impressive start to life at Stamford Bridge since joining from Inter Milan in the summer.

Lukaku has four goals in ten games this season in all competitions, and he will be hoping to stay fit during the hectic festive fixture schedule in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Alonso has been a regular starter for Chelsea FC, scoring one goal and assisting once in six Premier League appearances.

Chelsea FC currently leads the Premier League table by three points, three points ahead of second-placed Manchester City.

Petr Cech, a Chelsea FC legend, stated earlier this month that he believes the title race is still wide open.

“We’ve been having a brilliant season,” said Cech. “The coaching stuff has done a great job because we had a lot of players on international duty and pre-season was really affected by that.

“To be in the position we are now, it’s great credit to everyone. It has been a great pleasure to watch every game in the Premier League, there has been great drama and everybody can beat everybody.

“It will not be a two-horse race for the title.”
