Chelsea could miss out on significant transfer as Champions League powerhouse line up swap deal
Robert Lewandowski is the talk of the internet right now, with The Guardian linking the Polish international to a potential Chelsea move, despite other pundits telling soon-to-be new owner Todd Boehly that Lautaro Martinez and Harry Kane are better options than Bayern Munich’s second all-time top goalscorer.
Chelsea may miss out on a prospective transfer raid for Robert Lewandowski, with Barcelona hoping to acquire him in a swap deal with Memphis Depay.
After the problems of last summer’s major purchase, Romelu Lukaku, the Blues have experienced a frustrating season, so the addition of a world-class goal-scorer like Lewandowski would be a dream move for the club.
The Guardian has linked the Bayern Munich and Poland striker with Chelsea, but Barcelona may have a plan to get an advantage in this trade story.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan giants are prepared to make an offer to Bayern in order to persuade them to transfer their star player.
Bayern would struggle to replace Lewandowski, but Depay is a tremendous talent on his day and would undoubtedly lessen the blow of his departure.
The Netherlands international has not been fully impressive in his time at the Nou Camp, although he previously thrived at Lyon and was an important player for his country for a long period.
It will be fascinating to see what Chelsea has to say in response.
