Chelsea copy Bruno Fernandes trick to snatch dream £43m ‘best in the world’ Pep Guardiola’s transfer target
Thomas Tuchel is set to follow Pep Guardiola’s advice and emulate Manchester United, with Chelsea apparently preparing a massive bid for Matheus Nunes.
The Sporting star has been extensively linked with a move away from Estádio José Alvalade this summer, with Manchester City reportedly interested.
This summer, Nunes appeared 33 times for the Portuguese giants in Liga NOS, directly contributing to five goals from midfield.
With his enthusiastic and combative displays, he drove Sporting towards a title charge, emerging into one of Europe’s hottest prospects.
The Blues will offer roughly £39 million for the 23-year-old maestro, with an additional £4 million in add-ons, according to A Bola via the Express.

The west Londoners are apparently hoping to take advantage of possible suitors’ unwillingness to table bids, with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton also thought to be interested.
According to reports, Chelsea’s offer could be enough to make Tuchel’s first acquisition of the summer a statement, but also an unconventional, signing.
Wolves are said to have undertaken ‘extensive conversations’ with Sporting, although despite rejecting a reasonable offer, Nunes remains sceptical about a move to Molineux.
With Ruben Neves no longer set to leave Bruno Lage’s side, it’s unclear how Wolves will bankroll a counter bid amid West Ham’s interest
Nunes, whose contract with the Portuguese giants expires in 2026, received high plaudits from Guardiola during a Champions League match between City and Sporting in February.
The Spaniard dubbed the Portugal international “one of the best in the world,” giving Tuchel the go-ahead to seal the transaction if there had been any doubts. Guardiola stated, “Sporting are a fantastic team, they are the champions of Portugal, which have a very strong league, with Porto and Benfica, they change the ball well, they have fast and intelligent players. I would say that Matheus Nunes is one of the best players in the world today.”
Following in the footsteps of Bruno Fernandes, who switched Estádio José Alvalade for Old Trafford, Chelsea might aim to replicate United’s success after purchasing from Sporting.
Jorginho and N’Golo Kante both have contracts expiring at Stamford Bridge next summer, so a move for Nunes would be the first transfer in a Todd Boehly project.
