Chelsea are reportedly considering a surprise move to offload midfield mainstay N’Golo Kante in the upcoming summer transfer window.

In a surprising report from Fichajes, it is claimed that Chelsea would consider selling key midfielder N’Golo Kante in the summer of 2022.

Kante joined Chelsea in the summer of 2016 after assisting Leicester City to a shock Premier League title triumph.

The Frenchman went on to play a key role in the Blues winning the league title in his debut season, followed by the FA Cup the following season.

After assisting France to win the FIFA World Cup in 2018, Kante went on to win the UEFA Europa League in 2019 before winning the UEFA Champions League last season.

The 30-year-old was a huge part of each of the titles and trophies, especially the latter, as he won Man of the Match awards in both the semi-finals and finals.

Despite his importance to the team, Kante has had a few fitness issues recently, missing some games for Chelsea last season as well as this season.

With his contract set to expire at the end of the 2022/23 season, Chelsea are now considering selling him next summer, when he enters the final year of his deal.

Kante will be 31 years old when the current season concludes, and given his recent fitness issues, one can understand Chelsea’s thinking, as next summer would provide them with a chance to recoup some of the midfielder’s transfer fee.

Furthermore, the report states that there is a lot of excitement within the club about the development of players like Billy Gilmour and Conor Gallagher, who are both excelling on loan at Norwich City and Crystal Palace, respectively.

Their development is said to be another reason Chelsea may consider parting ways with one of their most important players in recent history.

Kante has previously attracted strong interest from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain. And if he is made available, there will be no shortage of suitors for his services.

Chelsea, for their part, may have already identified a long-term replacement in the form of AS Monaco starlet Aurelien Tchouameni, who has emerged as a transfer target for the Londoners.

Nonetheless, selling a player as valuable as Kante could be a risky move for Thomas Tuchel and co. What remains to be seen is whether Chelsea will go ahead and sell the diminutive Frenchman or offer him a new contract and extend his stay at Stamford Bridge.
