Chelsea chiefs send officials to watch Portuguese ‘superman’ with same agent as Felix in action
According to reports, Chelsea has sent representatives to watch Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa ahead of a possible summer transfer to the Premier League.
The club’s current goalkeepers, Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga, are under contract until 2025, but Graham Potter and Todd Boehly are reportedly already evaluating their future in goal.
The Portuguese international was selected to represent his country at the World Cup late last year, and his performances in Qatar appear to have caught the attention of the Blues.
According to 90min, Chelsea representatives have been “in the stands” to watch Costa play in “recent weeks.”
Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are also interested in the 23-year-old, and Chelsea’s recruitment staff has been identifying alternatives already in the Premier League in case a move fails to materialize.
The three names mentioned are Everton’s Jordan Pickford, Brentford’s David Raya, and Brighton’s Robert Sanchez, with the latter having a connection to Potter from his time on the south coast.
Talent scout Jacek Kulig referred to Costa as “superman”; therefore, it is a no-brainer for Chelsea to pursue a transfer for him this summer.
The 6’1″ star has kept ten clean sheets in 19 Liga Portugal appearances so far this season, and he knows what it takes to be successful, having won five senior titles at the Estadio do Dragao.
The fact that Costa and Joao Felix share the same agent could give the SW6 club an advantage in the race for his signature at the conclusion of the 2022/23 season.
