Chelsea board send message to Graham Potter and react to Southampton rotation
As per the reports, Chelsea’s owners have personally assured Graham Potter that they have no intention of sacking him, and he should continue to lead the team despite the negative fan reaction.
Chelsea has only managed to win two of their previous 14 matches in all competitions, with their most recent game being a 1-0 defeat at home to the bottom-ranked Southampton on Saturday.
After the final whistle at Stamford Bridge, there was a chorus of boos, largely aimed at Potter, and Chelsea now find themselves in 10th place, 10 points behind the top four.
There have been rumors that some players are questioning whether Potter is the right person to lead the team in the future. However, despite this, Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, the owners of Chelsea, are reportedly standing by their manager.
According to the Telegraph, Potter was advised to “put on his tin hat” and persevere through the criticism he is currently facing – which may persist even in the future.
The club has reportedly assured Potter that they have no intention of dismissing him, even if Chelsea loses their upcoming match against Tottenham this weekend, which is scheduled to be attended by Todd Boehly.
Boehly and Eghbali reportedly want to give Potter the opportunity to complete the current season, regardless of how tough it gets, and are aware of the significant changes he has had to oversee and deal with.
Ideally, they want Potter to lead the club for the entire next season, hoping for a less chaotic transfer window. They plan to make further evaluations in the summer of 2024.
However, they do recognize the importance of improving results and performances. A victory against Tottenham followed by progress in the Champions League could greatly change the mood around the club.
As per the Telegraph’s report, Chelsea’s owners have been impressed with Potter’s conduct and behavior, which was evident during the match against Southampton.
Although some fans questioned his decision to rest several key players for the game, Potter has been praised within the club for prioritizing their safety over any concerns he may have had about his job.
The Chelsea medical team advised against starting Reece James, Thiago Silva, Kai Havertz, Mykhailo Mudryk, or Raheem Sterling, and Potter’s decision to heed their advice has earned the complete support and appreciation of the Chelsea board.
Furthermore, the board also backs Potter’s decision to exclude Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from the team, despite the club’s ongoing scoring problems, and it is anticipated that Aubameyang will depart from Stamford Bridge in the summer.
