Chelsea board have clear stance over Graham Potter sacking after one win in ten matches
Despite the loss to Southampton on Saturday, Chelsea’s leadership is still showing support for Graham Potter.
Chelsea’s poor run of form continued as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to bottom-placed Southampton at Stamford Bridge. James Ward-Prowse’s free-kick in the first half secured the win for the visitors.
Chelsea have now only won one of their last 10 matches, and this defeat leaves them in 10th place in the Premier League, trailing fourth-placed Newcastle United by 10 points.
The team was met with boos from the fans at the end of the match, with several supporters expressing their dissatisfaction with the team’s recent performances.
According to a report by Matt Law in The Telegraph, despite the recent defeat, Chelsea’s board remains supportive of Graham Potter and has not changed their stance on him. Potter, on the other hand, described Chelsea’s performance against Southampton as “a step back” after their loss to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League earlier in the week.
“After a 1-0 defeat at home, any criticism you get is understandable,” said the Chelsea manager.
“I think we’ve had a tough period and I think we’ve had lots of challenges in terms of integrating young players into the Premier League. While results don’t go your way it can be tough, that is how it is.
“I’m sure there will be people out there that think I’m the problem, absolutely. I don’t think they’re right but I’m not arrogant enough to say their opinion isn’t worth articulating.
“My job is to help the team, keep working through a team period, we’ve had to make some changes today and the truth is we took a step back in our performance in the first half. The response in the second half was good, but it wasn’t good enough.”
