Chelsea announce 4 players have left club among them Andreas Christensen and £35m flop

Chelsea have announced its retained list following the end of the 2021/22 season, and four players have left Stamford Bridge due to the expiration of their contracts.

Andreas Christensen, who has been extensively linked with a summer move to Barcelona, has left Stamford Bridge after spending the last decade there after leaving Danish side Brondby in 2012.

The 54-cap Dane made 161 first-team games for Chelsea in all competitions, scoring twice and winning the Champions League, Europa League, Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup.

Danny Drinkwater, who joined the Blues from Leicester in a £35 million deal in 2017, leaves the club having not played for the club since the 2018 Community Shield defeat to Manchester City at Wembley Stadium.

Drinkwater scored once in 23 games for Chelsea and was loaned out four times, the most recent being for the remainder of the 2021/22 Championship season with Reading

. Drinkwater has also had loan spells with Burnley, Aston Villa, and Turkish club Kasimpasa.

Charly Musonda has departed Chelsea after ten years at the club.

Musonda played seven times for Chelsea during a tenure that included significant absences due to injury, including three Premier League appearances, with his lone goal coming in the EFL Cup triumph over Nottingham Forest in 2017.

Musonda, like Drinkwater, spent time on loan, playing for Real Betis in Spain, Celtic in Scotland, and Vitesse Arnhem in the Netherlands, totaling 36 appearances across five loan spells.

Jake Clarke-Salter, who has been with the Blues for 14 years, completes the list of senior departures.

Under caretaker manager Guus Hiddink, the 24-year-old centre-back made three first-team appearances for Chelsea, including one league game in a 4-0 win over Aston Villa in April 2016.

Clarke-Salter has been on loan from Chelsea six times, representing Bristol Rovers, Sunderland, Vitesse, Birmingham, and most recently, Coventry, appearing in 69 Championship games, 29 Eredivisie games, and 12 League One games.

Antonio Rudiger, a German international center-back, also left the club last month after his contract expired.

The defender joined Real Madrid on a free transfer after being selected to the PFA’s Premier League Team of the Year for the 2021/22 season on Thursday.

While no other players’ contracts have expired this summer, Spanish defensive combination Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso, as well as record-signing Romelu Lukaku, have all been linked with summer exits.
