Champions League Quarter Finalists power ranking From 8 To 1
The Champions League quarter-finals schedule for 2021/2022 has been released.
A variety of fixtures were presented to us. From Bayern Munich’s and Manchester City’s one-sided thrashings to the drama of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
We had some upsets with Villareal and Benfica, as well as some close games with Atlético Madrid vs. Manchester United and Liverpool vs. Inter Milan.
The Last 16 is now in the rearview mirror. It’s time to look ahead and see how these teams will do in the Champions League quarter-finals.
8 – Benfica
Someone has to have done it. They gave it their all in the first leg against Ajax at home, but the return match was nothing short of a goal against the break.
Darwin Nunez deserves credit for scoring in a crucial moment, but they’ll be lucky to advance against whoever they’re drawn against.
7 – Villareal
Villareal are a bit of a surprise in their Champions League season. They’ve shown a lot of fight after finishing runners-up to Manchester United.
This was obvious in their last group game victory over Atalanta and second leg performance against Juventus.
Domestically, they are seventh in La Liga, so it’s a question of how long they can ride this wave of momentum.
6 – Atlético Madrid
Let us not forget that Atlético needed a win versus Porto in their last Champions League group game to advance.
Let’s not forget that they had to beat Manchester United to reach to this position.
It hasn’t been their strongest team in recent years, but they’re tenacious, witty, and difficult to beat on their day.
5 – Chelsea
Personally, I felt this was a slight disrespect to Chelsea, given that they are the defending champions and have looked strong in Europe recently. However, it is impossible to raise them any higher.
It remains to be seen whether what’s going on within the club will have an impact on things. It is worth noting that they finished second in their group against Juventus.
4 – Real Madrid
Flying high at the top of La Liga and coming off a victory over the financial monster that is Paris Saint-Germain.
Real Madrid is on a streak and will be confident heading into the quarter-finals. They did lose to Sherriff early in the season, but they appear to be reaching their stride at the perfect time.
3 – Bayern Munich
Is it accurate to refer to Bayern as a sleeping giant? With the majority of the attention focused on the top two, Bayern had the most convincing Group Stage performance of any team.
They almost had a nightmarish night in Austria, but the tide shifted in the second leg. With Lewandowski scoring and their defense in good shape, they could compete with any team.
2 – Manchester City
This was a challenging one. The case for Manchester City being at the top of this list is that they are both the best team in the world and the finest league in the world.
The disadvantage is that they always appear to falter in the latter stages of the Champions League, and there’s no reason to believe they won’t do so again. Will their lack of a true striker come back to bite them?
1 – Liverpool
Despite their defeat to Inter Milan at Anfield, Liverpool remains the team to beat this season. Their performance on the Group Stage was flawless.
They’re the most in-form team in the Premier League, and they’re closing in on Manchester City.
It’s one of the most powerful Jurgen Klopp squads we’ve seen, and they’re mostly healthy. This season, they’ve also demonstrated that they can beat teams on off days.
