Celtic boss breaks silence on reports linking 27-year-old star to Chelsea

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou denied rumors linking Croatian right defender Josip Juranovic to teams including Chelsea, according to FootballScotland’s report.

A few days ago, it was stated in FootballLondon that Chelsea is one of the clubs interested in signing Juranovic for the upcoming transfer windows.

The fullback had an outstanding World Cup for Croatia, who ended in third place and advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating tournament favorites Brazil.

Against the South Americans, Juranovic was likely his country’s best player.

When asked about the transfer rumors, the Celtic manager responded as follows (h/t FootballScotland):

“Josip’s not back yet. He had a great World Cup. Absolutely, he had a great World Cup, he was brilliant. Credit to him. He’s got something now that he’ll have forever.

“As I keep saying to people, what I see is what’s before me every day here at training. If there’s an issue or players have things put in front of them about their future, I’m sure they’ll come and see me and Michael (Nicholson, CEO) will speak to their representatives.

“But right now, there’s nothing. Zero. Zip. Nada. Nothing going on.”

As a right-back/right wing-back backup for Reece James, Chelsea has been interested in signing Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan. The club is concerned about the number of injuries the Englishman has sustained during the past year.

Juranovic’s Celtic contract expires in the summer of 2026. (Transfermarkt). One might therefore assume that the Scottish giants are under no immediate pressure to sell him.

The 27-year-old prefers to play as a right-back, but is also capable of playing as a wing-back and a left-back.

The Croat is some sort of speed merchant. He can quickly cover the terrain on the right side. If you had never seen him play before, the Brazil game is sufficient evidence of his speed. In addition, he excels at box-to-box crossing, defensive recoveries, and one-on-one play against wingers.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will pursue the signing of a backup player for James. Both Dumfries and Juranovic had outstanding World Cups to continue their club success.
