Carlo Ancelotti has already told Chelsea how to defeat Real Madrid ahead of Champions League quarter final clash
Chelsea will face Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals next month.
The Blues and Los Blancos will meet for the second time in as many seasons, after the former defeated the latter in the semi-finals last season.
Chelsea, the incumbent European champions, face Real Madrid in the semi-finals as they seek to defend their championship.
If they make it to the last four, they will face the winner of Atletico Madrid vs. Manchester City.
After 28 games, Los Blancos are comfortably atop the La Liga table, with only 10 points separating them and second-placed Sevilla. However, there is one major “weakness” in Real Madrid’s lineup.
Carlo Ancelotti has previously explained his team’s “weakness” before of the Champions League quarter-final match against Real Madrid.
Last month, after Real Madrid defeated Alaves 3-0, with all three goals coming in the second half, manager Carlo Ancelotti pushed his team to start showing up in the first half of games. According to the Italian coach:
“We’ve spoken about it: the fact that it is hard for us to go into games with the necessary intensity. It is a weakness we’ve had and let’s hope we can fix it.”
As previously stated, the quarter-final will feature a rematch of two of last season’s semi-finalists. The two sides couldn’t be separated in the first leg, which took place in Madrid in April 2021.
Chelsea took the lead in Spain thanks to Christian Pulisic, but Karim Benzema equalized before the return leg at Stamford Bridge.
In reality, it was a rather easy deciding leg for the Blues, who triumphed 2-0 on the night thanks to Timo Werner and Mason Mount.
Despite his team’s performance against Real Madrid last season, Thomas Tuchel expects a difficult tie for the Blues. He stated:
“[It’s a] tough one. The challenge cannot be much higher than playing the second-leg in the Bernabeu with spectators [as things stand].
“It’s a big challenge, but it is also a big excitement around this match, around this fixture. So we know what’s coming and it will be an exciting match and a tough challenge.”
