Carlo Ancelotti gives Arsenal green light to finalize Marco Asensio transfer
Carlo Ancelotti has acknowledged that he is indifferent about whether or not Marco Asensio extends his contract with Real Madrid.
Asensio’s future with the club has become increasingly uncertain as his current contract is set to expire this summer.
Despite being linked with a move to Arsenal and attracting interest from other Premier League teams, Asensio has been a key player for Real Madrid this season, contributing directly to 11 goals in 31 appearances.
However, Ancelotti has stated that he does not feel any pressure to secure Asensio’s future with the club and believes that the player is performing well. Ancelotti was quoted as saying, “He looks good to me, so I don’t know if he stays or not.”
“Maybe he does, maybe he doesn’t. I don’t care much. We have some important challenges this season. The most important thing is that he contributes like last year. Let him continue as he is doing now. Then the club makes the most appropriate decision in the end.”
Back in September, Asensio was interviewed by a Spanish radio station called ‘Cope’ regarding his future amidst rumors linking him to Barcelona. When asked whether he was aware of the interest from the Catalan club, he replied, “Honestly, I don’t know if they have called.”
A lot of other clubs have been linked [with me] as well. But it’s normal because in seven months, well, from January actually, I am free to speak to other teams.”
Then, when pressed for a response on as to whether he’d make the contentious switch, Asensio replied: “It’s just that I have not thought about [joining Barca] or considered it. Honestly, right now, I can’t give you an answer. I don’t know.”
