Carlo Ancelotti can surpass Man Utd legend, Sir Alex Ferguson, if Real Madrid wins over Liverpool tonight
If Real Madrid defeats Liverpool on Saturday, Carlo Ancelotti would have surpassed Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson in terms of European titles.
Through another record, the Italian is already on the verge of immortality.
If Real Madrid defeats Liverpool in the Champions League this weekend, Ancelotti will surpass Ferguson in terms of total number of European trophies won.
The two titans square off at the Stade de France in Paris in a rematch of the 2018 final.
On that occasion, Los Blancos defeated the Reds after Loris Karius made two startling errors and Gareth Bale produced one of the best final goals ever seen with his overhead kick.
Zinedine Zidane was in charge at the time, but Ancelotti has since taken over. The 62-year-old had a long career full of success with teams such as AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and Juventus.
This is his second tenure as manager of Real Madrid, where he won the Champions League in his first stint in 2014.
After eight years, Real Madrid is a significantly different club, with Ancelotti bringing in some excellent youngsters such as Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo, and Eduardo Camavinga.
And the Italian is hopeful that this new generation of Madridistas would help him become Europe’s most successful manager.
He is presently tied with United icon Sir Alex Ferguson and Giovanni Trapattoni for the most UEFA titles with seven, however it might be argued that Ancelotti has already surpassed them. Along with Bob Paisley and Zinedine Zidane, he is one of three managers to have won the Champions League three times.
Fergie, on the other hand, has two Cup Winners’ Cups, one Intercontinental Cup (all of which are now defunct), and two Super Cups.
Ancelotti also has three Super Cups and one Intertoto Cup, which is no longer in play, in addition to his Champions League trophies.
Liverpool are already hoping to prevent the wily Italian from passing their own legend Paisley in terms of Champions League championships won, with a win tying them with AC Milan on seven. Mohamed Salah has already fueled the fire by declaring his desire for vengeance in 2018.
Sergio Ramos hurt the Egyptian in the first half of that game, which the Reds lost 3-1. Salah’s words have sparked outrage in the Real Madrid camp, while Jordan Henderson and Jamie Carragher have lauded the 29-year-old’s demeanor.
