‘Can hurt’: Merson says £24m Chelsea star could hurt Liverpool as he predicts FA Cup final
According to Paul Merson article in The Daily Star, Chelsea full-back Marcos Alonso might hurt Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in the FA Cup final this weekend.
On Sunday, Liverpool will face Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea in the FA Cup final.
Merson, a former Arsenal player and Sky Sports pundit, believes Chelsea left-back Alonso might be a problem for Liverpool.
The pundit believes the 31-year-old, who can also play as a wing-back and cost Chelsea £24 million in transfer costs in 2016 (Sky Sports), will be detrimental to Liverpool in the future.
Merson also believes Chelsea will win the FA Cup final 2-1 against Liverpool.
The Englishman wrote in The Daily Star: “Marcos Alonso has produced some big moments for Chelsea over the years, but he is a player Liverpool could target.
“If I’m being honest, he has no interest in defending, but he plays his own little game and can hurt Jurgen Klopp’s side while going forward, so he’ll be one to watch out for.
“When I first thought about this game, I was inkling towards a draw, but I fancy Chelsea to win it 2-1 as Fabinho’s absence swings the game in the Blues’ favor.
“The Carabao Cup final ended 0-0, but the amount of chances created on the night was absolutely mindblowing.”
The FA Cup final between Chelsea and Liverpool, in our opinion, will be enormous and entertaining.
Both Liverpool and Chelsea have really good squads, so don’t be shocked if the game ends in penalties.
Both teams have injury worries, and it will be intriguing to see how Tuchel and Klopp deal with them.
