Bukayo Saka receives crucial reassurance as Edu’s £50 million Arsenal ‘mystery winger’ transfer is revealed

Arsenal made a strong start to the summer transfer window, addressing both the offensive and defensive positions, which clearly needed to be strengthened at the end of last season.

Despite a strong start to the window, more acquisitions are required.

The Gunners have been looking for a midfielder and a winger throughout the transfer window with little success.

However, it appears that Edu is planning to address the wide areas, as the north London club has reportedly targeted Pedro Neto as the club’s next signing during the summer transfer window.

There were concerns about the winger’s arrival due to his age and ability similarities to Bukayo Saka.

Despite this, Neto would prove to be a help rather than a hindrance to the Englishman.

Saka became the second youngest player to reach 100 Premier League appearances after Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Bournemouth, trailing only Cesc Fabregas.

The academy graduate is also in the top five for Arsenal appearances made before the age of 20, surpassing Arsenal legends such as David Rocastle and Liam Brady, and has been used more than any other player by Mikel Arteta since taking over as manager in 2019.

However, if Arsenal sell Nicolas Pepe before the end of the transfer window, competition for Saka will be required.

Despite his excellent performances for Arsenal last season, the Englishman showed signs of burnout at times, with Arteta admitting at the end of the season that the youngster needs rest. Having someone who can successfully share the attacking load would undoubtedly be advantageous.

Arsenal have been linked with a’mystery winger,’ which Fabrizio Romano claims is a position Edu and Mikel Arteta want to fill.

Neto would be the ideal player to provide competition for Saka while also providing him with a rest bite after a string of games.

It’s also a viewpoint that Edu appears to share, as Arsenal’s current transfer priority, according to the Athletic’s David Ornstein, is to sign Neto. The Gunners have reportedly been in talks for over a month in order to finalize a deal.

TalkSPORT also reported that securing his services will cost £50 million.

The arrival of the Portuguese winger would also be extremely beneficial this season due to the upcoming World Cup in November.

While Saka appears to be a lock for a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad, the same cannot be said for Neto with Portugal.

If Neto is not called up, he will be able to rest and resume the second half of the season fully fit, allowing Saka to have the necessary recovery to help him regain his best form.

Neto would undoubtedly be a beneficial addition rather than a detriment to Saka’s development. It is unquestionably a deal that Edu should try to close.
