Bruno Fernandes in trouble! FA set to investigate Man Utd captain for pushing assistant
The FA is planning to investigate the push made by Bruno Fernandes, a player for Manchester United, on an assistant referee during the team’s game against Liverpool on Sunday, which could result in trouble for him.
The captain of Manchester United, who appeared to request to be taken out of the game as Liverpool dominated at Anfield, was observed pushing an assistant referee in annoyance in the second half of the match, in which the Red Devils were soundly defeated 7-0.
Although the officials did not penalize the player during the game, the FA has the ability to impose disciplinary measures retroactively for violent conduct on the field, and according to The Mirror, an inquiry is expected to commence.
Ref Support UK, an organization advocating for referees, has been calling on the FA to impose severe consequences on the Portuguese player.
Martin Cassidy, the organization’s CEO, stated,”Just like someone doing a Ronaldo celebration or a Cruyff turn, children will mimic what they see on TV. We’re talking about a world class official being pushed in the back here.
“The onus is certainly on the FA. They have all the evidence in front of them to send a real strong message across all football that touching a match official in this way is totally unacceptable.
“Fernandes behaved like an entitled child. The FA has done an awful lot of great work since the beginning of the year in terms of protecting match officials, such as the body cam pilot, which is a wonderful progressive move. But they can damage that by not addressing this with a strong ban. We believe it should be five games for this.”
The FA recently issued a letter to all Premier League clubs, emphasizing their obligations in regards to player behavior.
It is probable that the player will be fined and could potentially be suspended for his violent behavior on the field. In addition, some have called for him to be removed from the captaincy of Manchester United as a result of his conduct during the team’s loss to Liverpool.
