Bruno Fernandes gets bashing from Ian Wright over‘ attack’ on Arsenal, Liverpool stars

Ian Wright, a former Arsenal player, has slammed Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes for “lashing out” at left-back Nuno Tavares, suggesting he was lucky not to be sent off.

The Gunners went on to defeat the Red Devils 3-1 on Saturday.

Tavares’, Bukayo Saka’s, and Granit Xhaka’s goals cancelled out Cristiano Ronaldo’s score to earn the home team all three points.

After a successful week for Mikel Arteta, with a win against Chelsea and North London rivals Tottenham dropping points in the top-four competition, they climbed up to fourth.

After the victory, the Spaniard spoke about his team: “what I see is a team that is so willing, that gives the energy. The cohesion that they have in that stadium is phenomenal, and it gives them a chance, and it makes me believe we can do it [finish top four].”

However, two pivotal moments in the game occurred in each penalty box. Saka was pulled down in the area, and after a prolonged VAR review, a spot-kick was awarded, which the winger converted.

In the second half, Tavares rose to head a cross into the box but instead struck the ball with his arm, giving the visitors a penalty of their own.

Fernandes did his customary stuttering run and hit the post with a chance to tie the score at 2-2.

It was a pivotal time in the game, as United had the opportunity to draw level. Instead, the Gunners went to the other end of the field to extend their lead.

Following that event, Fernandes swung at Tavares in a subsequent game challenge to vent his rage. He had done it previously against Liverpool and full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.

This irritated Ian Wright has slammed Bruno Fernandes for his tackles on Arsenal and Liverpool players during their respective matches, saying the Manchester United midfielder was ‘fortunate’ not to be sent off in their recent defeats.

“Seeing Bruno Fernandes just lashing out at people, lashing out at Trent really wildly, and then the challenge on Nuno, you look at it and you think to yourself, ‘That’s not what Manchester United need from you, my friend’.

“Manchester United needs a lot more than you going around trying to top people. He was lucky not to get sent off. But this is what it’s come to.”

Meanwhile, last week, Premier League legend Graeme Souness claimed Fernandes was too ‘petulant’ to be a top player, revealing to The Times: “Ten Hag is walking into an absolute disaster.

“On the pitch, it has been a car crash of a club in the decade since [Sir Alex Ferguson] left. That’s down to consistently terrible football decisions. Whoever made them has not been a football person.

“Not one big-name signing since Fergie left has been an unqualified success. Bruno Fernandes comes closest, but he’s had one good season and one indifferent one.

“To be a top player he has to cut out the petulance he shows towards his team-mates.”
