Bruno Fernandes breaks Premier League record with Everton assist

With his assist for Anthony Martial’s goal against Everton on Saturday, Manchester United playmaker Bruno Fernandes set a Premier League record.
With 43 minutes remaining in the Premier League match at Old Trafford, Fernandes laid the ball on a plate for Martial to smash home the opener – his first Premier League assist of the new season.

The tie ended in disappointment for the Red Devils, who were pegged back by an equalizer from Andros Townsend, but Fernandes earned another piece of history on the day.

The Portuguese playmaker’s assist for Martial’s goal marked his 50th goal contribution in the Premier League in 58 games, making him the competition’s fastest midfielder to reach that milestone.

Fernandes is fourth on the all-time list of players in that category, with Andy Cole reaching the mark in 43 games and Eric Cantona and Alan Shearer doing so in just 54.

The ex-Sporting Lisbon man now has 44 goals and 28 assists from 90 games in a Manchester United shirt, including seven contributions from 10 games across all competitions this season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer chastised Manchester United for failing to stop Andros Townsend’s equalizer and for lacking “cutting edge” in the 0-0 draw with Everton at Old Trafford.

“We did have enough players behind the ball, we made a couple of bad decisions which cost us in those 10 seconds or whatever — that counter-attack worked for them,” said Solskjaer.

“We worked (enough players) well enough behind the ball but should have dealt with the danger better. It’s a counter-attack they throw at us, we were well enough organised and should have dealt with the situation a lot better.”
