Brighton now want 24-year-old Liverpool star, after approving deal to sign James Milner
Brighton & Hove Albion are said to be interested in signing Caoimhin Kelleher from Liverpool. The Seagulls are reportedly looking to acquire a second Liverpool player, following James Milner.
The Irish Independent reports that Brighton are one of three clubs pursuing Kelleher, alongside Tottenham and Brentford, as the 24-year-old goalkeeper is expected to leave Liverpool this summer.
Kelleher has been Liverpool’s primary backup goalkeeper for almost three seasons, but as he reaches a stage in his career where he needs regular game time, a departure from Anfield appears to be becoming more probable.
Brighton has developed an interest in Kelleher, and this comes after their manager, Roberto De Zerbi, secured the signing of Milner as a free agent for the Amex Stadium, with the Liverpool midfielder’s contract set to expire soon.
De Zerbi is keen on having his own preferred goalkeeper at Brighton, and Kelleher could be an excellent candidate for the position, particularly if the Seagulls manage to qualify for European competitions by the end of the season.
This factor could make the prospect of joining Brighton even more attractive for the Liverpool goalkeeper.
Kelleher is conscious that he needs to leave Liverpool this summer to kickstart his career, and becoming Brighton’s new first-choice goalkeeper could be a wise move for the Cork-native, especially if the Seagulls qualify for European competitions.
Under De Zerbi’s leadership, it has been a fantastic season for Brighton, and although securing a spot in European tournaments for next season is not yet certain, the club is on track to achieve this goal.
If they manage to finish in the top seven, it would be a remarkable accomplishment, and Kelleher would be imprudent to reject the opportunity to join the Amex team.
