Brendan Rodgers sends Arsenal transfer message amid James Maddison links

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has sent Arsenal a transfer message amid rumors that they are interested in signing James Maddison this summer.

Gunners chief executive Edu is hopeless to sign an attacking midfielder this summer after former loanee Martin Odegaard returned to parent club Real Madrid at the end of June.

The Norwegian has been associated with a return to the Emirates Stadium this summer but reports from Spain have hinted that the 22-year-old is likely to stay at the Bernabeu and fight for his place instead.

Gunners’ are interested in Leicester City starlet James Maddison, with the 24-year-old ‘at the top of the list’ for manager Mikel Arteta in the summer transfer window.

Maddison had a remarkably fruitful 2020/21 campaign with the Foxes, notching an impressive 11 goals and ten assists across all competitions, numbers that have increased his price tag to more than £60million, a sum that would make him the second most costly signing in Arsenal’s history.

However, Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers has claimed that the club are not planning on letting any players go this summer, stating that they are unlikely to sell anyone before the transfer window slams shut in just over four weeks times.

“We have no plans to lose anyone,” he told talkSPORT.

“We’re keen not to lose anyone.”

It remains to be seen whether the Northern Irishman is playing transfer mind games but he has earlier admitted that he will have no problem selling any player that isn’t happy at the King Power Stadium.

“If a player doesn’t want to be here, with all due respect, we don’t want them here. It’s as simple as that,” Rodgers said last summer.

“If (Leicester sell), there’s always a premium for that player. Leicester have shown that, long before my time here. They’re very good from a business perspective.

“If there’s a player to go, they’ll look to get maximum value for that player.”
