Brendan Rodgers rules out James Maddison exit
Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has apparently made it plain that Arsenal-linked James Maddison will not be bequeathing the club this summer.
With the Gunners seeking options to Martin Odegaard in the number 10 role, Maddison has apparently been identified as a leading target for Mikel Arteta.
Leicester are perceived to have spanked a £70m price tag on the head of the 24-year-old, but Rodgers has asserted that the Foxes are not prepared to entertain offers for key members of the squad.
Speaking to reporters, Rodgers said:
“In conversations with the club, we don’t have to sell. That’s something that’s been made clear.
“The players want to stay. It’s a really exciting time at the club. There’s lots of gossip and speculation around but I’m loving working with the guys here, they love being here, and we certainly have no need to sell. So I would suspect we’re looking to keep our best players.”
Maddison completed the 2020-21 season with 11 goals and 10 assists to his name from 42 matches in all competitions, and the playmaker also scooped an FA Cup winners’ medal – the first major trophy of his career.

Real Madrid demand buyback clause from Arsenal in Martin Odegaard transfer
Real Madrid will demand a buyback clause in any permanent deal with Arsenal for Martin Odegaard, according to reports in Spain.
The Gunners have been informed to Odegaard’s availability and have reignited their attempts to sign the Norway international for a second spell at the club.

Mikel Arteta made it clear at the end of last season that he was keen for Arsenal to keep Odegaard, and the Gunners were interested in extending the midfielder’s loan deal for another season.
However, Real Madrid had originally intended to keep Odegaard and allowed Carlo Ancelotti to decide the midfielder’s future.
According to ABC, Ancelotti has told Odegaard that he is part of his plans but is not able to assure him a regular role in the team as Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Casemiro are still at the club.
The report alleges that Odegaard is now uncertain over his future and is contemplating a return to Arsenal as he knows he will be given more minutes by Arteta.
ABC report that Arsenal have not yet presented an offer to Arsenal, while Madrid are asking a €50 million (£42.7m) transfer fee plus a buyback option as part of the deal.
Speaking in June, Odegaard restated his desire to become a regular at Madrid.
“Of course it has always been a dream to play there,” said the midfielder.
“I have been in the club for over six years now, and that has always been the goal.
“I always want to play, I have said that all the time. Playing hard is important.’
Arsenal, meanwhile, are weighing a move for James Maddison as an alternative to Odegaard but Leicester City value the 24-year-old at £70m.
