Brendan Rodgers hints when Wesley Fofana’s £75m Chelsea move could be official
Brendan Rodgers is hoping for a quick resolution to the Wesley Fofana saga, hinting that things might be clearer by the end of the weekend.
Chelsea made a breakthrough in their long-running pursuit of the Leicester defender on Friday, agreeing to a deal worth around £75 million, after three previous offers were rejected.
Chelsea and Fofana have already agreed on a six-year contract worth around £200,000 per week.
The transfer window remains open until Thursday, when Leicester hosts Manchester United.
Brendan Rodgers, on the other hand, stated, ‘It’s the same with any player.’ If they decide they want to move and see their future elsewhere, I believe it is best to do so as soon as possible.
“You have to prepare a team and a group of players and you have to maybe replace that player. Every coach will tell you the same. It doesn’t benefit anyone if it drags on. So we will see what happens over the weekend.”
Leicester must sell before they can buy and have only added goalkeeper Alex Smithies on a free transfer.
“No doubt that when the window shuts everything calms down,” Rodgers said.
“We have been unable to add and there has been a lot of speculation about our top players so there is no doubt it has been difficult. But it will stop on Thursday and then we can move on but until then we have to keep fighting.”
When asked about the Fofana situation and whether or not a deal had been reached, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel responded, “No, I can’t tell you nothing about that.”
