Blow to Rangnick as Man Utd could be without six key players for the Liverpool match
Manchester United could be missing six key players for Tuesday’s Premier League meeting with Liverpool at Anfield.
The Red Devils returned to winning ways on Saturday, defeating Norwich City 3-2.
Cristiano Ronaldo made headlines with his 50th hat-trick in club history.
Despite the victory, the defensive effort was once again unconvincing. When the score was 2-2, goalkeeper David de Gea needed to make a key stop.
Interim manager Ralf Rangnick has called for two major improvements against the Reds, but there has been no positive news for the team on the injury front ahead of the clash.
Luke Shaw has been ruled out for the season following leg surgery, while Fred, Scott McTominay, and Edinson Cavani have all been ruled out due to injuries.
Rangnick recently hinted that Raphael Varane could return for the trip to Anfield, but the Frenchman is still recovering and has yet to resume full training.
Rangnick told Manutd.com: “Rapha [Varane] didn’t train with the team. He was on the pitch with one of our rehab coaches. But with regard to injured players, we have the same situation that we had in the last two games.”
Apart from the quintet, we don’t expect Ronaldo to be present tomorrow, given the devastating news of his infant boy’s death. He should take a long break from action.
United have closed the gap on fourth-placed Tottenham to three points, but they face a tough month ahead with games against Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea.
Over the years, Anfield has not been a welcoming venue for them. United haven’t won a game since 2016, but they’ll be looking to snap their losing skid tomorrow.
The defense will have their job cut out for them against one of the finest attacking teams in the league.
A win would be ideal, but a point will suffice given that Spurs must also face them on the road. Antonio Conte’s team will also face Arsenal next month.
