Blow for Liverpool as Romano confirms transfer target has settled to joining Chelsea instead

Blow for Liverpool as Romano confirms transfer target has settled to joining Chelsea instead

According to Fabrizio Romano, a Liverpool midfield target is now joining Premier League rival Chelsea.

Thiago Alcantara and Arthur Melo have been sidelined by injury throughout the season, and Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are set to become free agents in the summer.

In recent months, Liverpool has been linked to players such as Jude Bellingham, Enzo Fernandez, and Konrad Laimer.

The Times reported earlier this week that Jurgen Klopp’s team was among those interested in the 18-year-old Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos.

However, it appears that Santos has chosen to play for Premier League foe Chelsea instead of the Reds.

According to transfer expert Romano, Santos has chosen Chelsea over Manchester City, Newcastle, and Liverpool for £17.6 million.

The reporter Tweeted: “Chelsea have full verbal agreement in place to sign Brazilian talent Andrey Santos, confirmed — final fee around €20m, personal terms agreed too. #CFC

“Chelsea & Vasco will now prepare documents. Born in 2004, Andrey will be part of Chelsea talents project. Here we go.”

Since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took control Chelsea in May, the club’s transfer strategy has shifted significantly, with a focus on promising young players.

And Santos is without a doubt promising. He has excelled as a ball-winning central midfielder this season.

Last year, the teenager made his debut with the Vasco da Gama first squad and has since made a significant impression. This season, Santos made 36 appearances in all competitions, scored eight goals, and earned four caps for the Brazil Under-20 national team.
