Blow! Erling Haaland suffers injury in Norway’s friendly as Liverpool clash looms
Manchester City faced a setback in their readiness for the upcoming match against Liverpool as Erling Haaland sustained an ankle injury while playing with the Norwegian national team.
The striker entered the field as a substitute in a friendly game, which his team ultimately won 2-0.
However, City supporters and manager Pep Guardiola are likely to be infuriated by his participation.
Haaland suffered the injury in the final minutes, and national team doctor Ola Sand suggested that the 23-year-old had aggravated the same ankle that had previously caused him problems.
Sand revealed, per Vg: “He got a slight twist in his ankle, where he is a bit vulnerable. It hurts a lot right away, and then it goes away pretty quickly. Then we’ll see tomorrow how he is then.”
Haaland has been consistently impressive this season, notching up 17 goals in 18 matches across all competitions.
Any potential absence of the Norwegian striker would be a significant setback for Guardiola and Manchester City as they strive to defend the treble they secured in the previous season.
With the match against Liverpool just nine days away, Manchester City will be on edge regarding Haaland’s fitness. Currently, Guardiola’s team holds a slim one-point lead over the Reds at the summit of the Premier League table.
