‘Biggest change I’ve seen’: Thomas Frank reveals major difference he’s spotted since Chelsea appointed Potter
The main difference he’s noticed at Chelsea since Graham Potter replaced Thomas Tuchel as manager, according to Brentford’s Thomas Frank, is the change in formations.
Tuchel, who was fired as Blues manager last month, left Stamford Bridge as a popular figure among the club’s supporters.
However, in this fast-paced sport, fans have rallied behind their new head coach.
Potter left Brighton to take on his most important job to date, which has started with five wins and a draw from six games.
His team will then travel to Brentford in the Premier League on Wednesday night.
Brentford manager Frank has been talking about Chelsea ahead of tonight’s league match.
When asked the differences between Tuchel and Potter at Chelsea, Frank responded: “I think the style of play is not too different. I think both managers want to dominate the ball and dominate the games. In many ways, I don’t see a big difference there.
“What the biggest change is he (Potter) is more flexible in his approach to systems/shape every game. That is the biggest change I’ve seen so far.”
Chelsea fans have seen a back three formation at times under Potter that is reminiscent of the previous manager’s style, but it is undeniably more unpredictable to watch over the course of 90 minutes.
The Blues are adaptable in systems that frequently appear very different in and out of possession.
Potter demonstrated his unique thinking early on when he tried Sterling in a hybrid wing-back position.
Along with the unpredictable line-ups and formations, it appears that this new-look Chelsea side is attempting to be more progressive with their passing.
It’s also encouraging to see the Blues reclaim some defensive stability. Kepa Arrizabalaga has kept four consecutive clean sheets.
