‘Big chance’: Jack Wilshere says it’s very probable that £50m player signs for Arsenal this summer
Jack Wilshere returned to talkSPORT yesterday after a brief absence, and the Englishman discussed Arsenal’s alleged pursuit of Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus.
The Gunners must acquire a new striker this summer, and they have already been connected with a number of prominent names.
The rumour mill has spawned a lot of options, ranging from Victor Osimhen and Lautaro Martinez in Italy to Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the Premier League.
However, the striker most connected with a move to Arsenal this summer is Jesus, who appears to be on his way out of Manchester City before the end of the summer transfer season.
Wilshere believes Arsenal will sign the Brazilian due of Mikel Arteta’s influence.
Speaking on talkSPORT about Jesus yesterday, Wilshere said: “He has a year left on his contract?
“They could get him cheaper if they hold out. I’ve done that before (run down my contract) – you get more money that way, it’s a fact. That’s why the players do it. I think they will be queuing up (for Jesus).
“I think Arsenal will have a big chance of signing him because of his relationship with his manager.
“I think Newcastle would go for him. But I would love to see him at Arsenal.”
Arsenal’s failure to qualify for the Champions League was a huge setback.
Every great player in the world, even Jesus, aspires to participate in Europe’s most renowned club championship.
However, because to Arteta’s familiarity with him, Arsenal have a high chance of landing the £50 million-rated Brazilian.
When the current Arsenal manager was Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City, the two worked together on a daily basis.
They are very familiar with each other, and the Gunners manager’s persuasion talents may be enough in the coming days.
It will be interesting to watch how this plays out this summer, but one thing is certain: Jesus would be a fantastic addition to the Arsenal squad.
