Ben White alleged bust-up with Three Lions assistant manager forced the England star home from World Cup as fresh details emerge
Ben White left England’s World Cup training after an alleged altercation with assistant manager Steve Holland.
White departed the Three Lions’ Al Wakrah training facility in Qatar and returned to London last week for personal reasons, as stated by the FA.
It is said that the Arsenal defender was unhappy in the England camp and had difficulty integrating with his teammates.
The final straw was when he argued with Gareth Southgate’s No. 2 Holland in front of the rest of the team.
It is believed that the pair exchanged words after White arrived at a squad meeting prior to the Group B match against the United States without knowing important information about his personal statistics.
Holland reportedly was not impressed by White’s lack of understanding of England’s American opponents.
A mutual agreement was reached to release the defender from the tournament, and he will not return to Qatar.
White, who was participating in his first World Cup, missed three Group B matches for the Three Lions and the 3-0 victory over Wales due to sickness.
White was accompanied home by Raheem Sterling, who returned to London after a break-in at his residence.
In contrast to White, Sterling has returned to Qatar to rejoin the squad and is expected to be on the bench when England face defending champions France in Doha on Saturday.
The FA declined to comment, and White’s agent did not reply to requests for comment according to Daily Star.
