Barcelona’s £235m Spotify deal could ultimately mark the end to Paul Pogba’s Man Utd career
As he prepares to leave Manchester United, Paul Pogba has resurfaced on Barcelona’s radar.
The 29-year-old French World Cup winner will become a free agent this summer after completing the final months of his £250,000-per-week contract at United.
Barcelona’s initial interest had waned because they believed they would be unable to match the former Juventus player’s personal demands.
However, last week’s massive sponsorship contract with Spotify, worth an estimated £235 million over four years, has drastically transformed Camp Nou’s financial position.
And that means they can now enter the contest – and put up a package to entice Pogba to join the ongoing Xavi revolution.
Barcelona’s LaLiga play has improved dramatically since huge January arrivals, notably Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Arsenal, while the club has advanced to the Europa League final eight.
Pogba appears to be interested in completing his rollercoaster career in Spain as long as his circumstances continue to improve.
His true dream move was to join Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid, but with him no longer at the Bernebau, that is no longer an option.
Zidane, on the other hand, could yet have a role in Pogba’s next destination.
If he takes over at Paris-Saint-Germain in the summer, the Old Trafford star may follow him there. Pogba’s second stint at United has been uneven at best, with last week being one of the worst.
Not only did he fail to make Ralf Rangnick’s team in the midweek Champions League exit to Atletico Madrid, but the ex-Juventus midfielder’s residence was also broken into on the same night by criminals.
Barcelona has informed Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, that they intend to pursue him in June.
