Barcelona set to repeat Andreas Christensen’s feat in a damaging double Chelsea transfer swoop

Barcelona set to repeat Andreas Christensen’s feat in a damaging double Chelsea transfer swoop

Chelsea could be set for another round with Barcelona next summer after dancing the Tango with them all summer.

Andreas Christensen left the club after his contract expired, leaving for free, and a reunion with some of his former teammates could be on the cards, with two members of Graham Potter’s squad in a similar position to the Dane one year later.

Chelsea felt the pain of losing Christensen and were unable to advance contract negotiations due to restrictions imposed on the club’s activities in the aftermath of sanctions imposed by the UK government on former owner Roman Abramovich, but they do not have the same reason for their current stars, who both pose a difficult question for Todd Boehly and Graham Potter to answer in the coming months.

Both Jorginho and N’Golo Kante are free to leave the club next summer if no agreement is reached, but the more pressing issue is that they can begin talks with some potential suitors as early as January.

With such a demanding schedule and the winter World Cup on the horizon, Chelsea don’t have much time to persuade or even make an offer to either player.

According to the Evening Standard, Barcelona may make a move for Kante and Jorginho as a result of the stalemate with Christensen.

The Catalan club spent a lot of money last summer to bring in Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, but they also used the free market to add Franck Kessie to their midfield.

Marcos Alonso also joined after being in talks with the club for the majority of the summer, while Cesar Azpilicueta was expected to leave Stamford Bridge despite signing a new contract.

Kante would like to stay in London but wants a longer contract than Chelsea is currently willing to offer due to his injury issues. Jorginho would also like to stay, but has repeatedly mentioned a return to Italy since joining Chelsea.

The Frenchman hasn’t played since leaving the field early against Tottenham in August, and he’s only appeared in two of the season’s 12 games.

Speaking about his midfielder, Potter said: “N’Golo, we are just waiting — he has had a reaction in training so we are just waiting on the news from that.

“It’s certainly not ideal and it’s disappointing for him and for us. We have to wait and see the extent of it and go from there.”
