Barcelona drop massive £96m Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Frenkie de Jong Chelsea transfer hint

As Todd Boehly issued a four-day warning, Barcelona dropped a telling Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Frenkie de Jong Chelsea transfer hint.

The Blues have just come off a 2-1 home win over Leicester City after losing to Leeds United in the Premier League.

Raheem Sterling and Reece James stole the show for the ten men who had to fill in for Conor Gallagher.

Despite the victory, Chelsea’s defence had gaping holes once again. Gallagher demonstrated yet again that he is incapable of playing in a balanced midfield pivot with Jorginho.

The injury-prone status of Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante means that, despite manager Thomas Tuchel’s insistence that he is happy with the squad’s current make-up, he may need to do a Jürgen Klopp-style U-turn in the final days of this summer’s transfer window.

De Jong is looking increasingly likely to stay in Catalunya as a new contract is negotiated.

Barcelona appears to be on track to win their ongoing contract dispute with their star midfielder, but with four days left, anything is possible.

According to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the 25-year-old joining Chelsea is more likely at this point in the transfer window than a surprise move to Liverpool.

He told CaughtOffside: “My feeling is that it is Chelsea who are really pushing for him [Frenkie De Jong].”

Moving up the pitch, Tuchel has identified Aubameyang as the striker he believes will do well in the short term for at least one season.

Chelsea were initially ‘very confident’ about agreeing to a £22 million whole package deal for the 33-year-old, according to football.london.

However, Boehly’s insistence on including Marcos Alonso in the deal, combined with personal contract length issues, has resulted in a hold-up that is set to push this deal to the deadline.

Xavi’s decision to include the duo in the squad for the Rayo Valladolid La Liga match this Sunday is one telling sign that nothing is close on either deal.

It remains to be seen whether Barcelona starts either of the pair, but their inclusion in the squad isn’t a good sign for Chelsea. Both appeared and scored in the Camp Nou’s midweek charity match against Manchester City.
