Arteta promotes exhilarating 19-year-old to senior Arsenal training after Thomas Partey injury setback

After Thomas Partey was ruled out with a groin injury, Mikel Arteta promoted 19-year-old Arsenal talent Miguel Azeez to first-team training. On Saturday, the Gunners host Brighton at The Emirates.

Azeez made his Arsenal debut under Arteta last season in the Europa League, but has yet to make his second appearance.

During the first half of the current season, he was loaned to Portsmouth.

It comes after only 10 appearances for Pompey. He has rejoined the Gunners and is currently playing for the Under-23s.

The London-born striker has two goals and an assist in nine Premier League 2 appearances.

With Partey ruled out, Arsenal posted a behind-the-scenes video of their training session ahead of Saturday on Twitter, in which Azeez can be seen.

Arteta has indeed promoted him to training, according to All Nigeria Soccer report .

On Saturday, Albert Sambi Lokonga is expected to replace Granit Xhaka in midfield, behind Martin Odegaard. Arteta could start Smith-Rowe alongside Xhaka instead of Odegaard.

However, given that Arsenal and other Premier League clubs can name nine substitutes, Azeez is likely to sit on the bench, with Lokonga starting. Mo Elneny, an unused sub at Palace, is another option.
