Arteta named as a shock nominee for a coaching role at 5 times European Champions.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is being viewed as a successor for Ronald Koeman at Barcelona, according to various reports in the Catalan media.
The 39-year-old Arsenal manager is however not the favorite for the job but he is amongst three possible candidates as new president Joan Laporta weighs up a possible change of head coach.
Club legend Xavi, who is currently in command of Qatari side Al Sadd, is the frontrunner for the job at the 5-time European champions, while Belgian manager Roberto Martinez is also in stand.
Arteta came through the academy at Barcelona, before departing for Rangers in 2002, so he does have close links with the La Liga side.
His time as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City will also work in his favor, holding the high esteem that the former Barca boss is held in by Laporta.

Even though he hasn’t set the world alight since being named by Arsenal 18 months ago, with the Gunners having finished eighth this campaign, Arteta has still won the FA Cup and Community Shield. It is understood he will be given this season to create a squad able of competing more consistently in the league.
And Arsenal fans on social media are dazed by the news. Despite a dreadful season the Gunners have endured, some supporters are keen for the club to keep hold of Arteta. The Basque coach is seen as a long-term manager for the north London club.
However, his small amount of experience in the hot seat would work against him if the club were to explore out a new manager.
