Arsenal triple blow forces Arteta to go back to Arsenal’s transfer drawing board.

Arsenal’s summer of disappointment continues apace as Mikel Arteta’s efforts to develop his side’s creative output continue to wallow.

A lack of creativity was often mentioned as one of the essential reasons for the Gunners’ below-par period in 2020/21, which often saw numerous calls for Arteta to bring the ostracized Mesut Ozil back into the fold.

The Spanish manager was never going to do that, particularly as he had young talents such as Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka to call upon.

But Arteta did move to improve Arsenal’s creative skills in the final third with a January loan move for Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid.

The Norwegian was a hit at the Emirates Stadium, so much so that Gunners fans have been anticipating that the club would be able to obtain his signature on a permanent deal.

But as published by The Athletic, that now looks doubtful to happen as the Norwegian is set to stay at the Bernabeu for the coming campaign and look to establish himself under returning Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Missing out on Odegaard is a section of a three-pronged feeling of disappointment for Arteta so far this summer, as Arsenal have fumbled out on one of their top targets and seen another creative player depart.

Emi Buendia was a name that was high on Arteta’s summer shopping list, but the Argentina international has decided to join Aston Villa after backing Norwich City back to the Premier League.

The former Arsenal goalkeeper and Buendia’s fellow Argentinean Emi Martinez was assumed to be key to making that move happen, with Buendia insisting that he spoke fondly of the club.

“He already told me about a lot of the club and the city,” he said.

“He told me a lot of very good things about everything. Of course, to have someone like him is very good for my adaptation. So it will be better.

“But, already, it’s my fourth year in England so I can speak with every team-mate like normal.

“He told me about the very good group in the team, they are good people there. So I think it will be easy for me.”

In addition to missing out on Buendia and watching Odegaard slip from his grip, Arteta has also seen Dani Ceballos return to Real Madrid after two seasons on loan at Arsenal.

Keeping the midfielder would not have remained precedence for the Gunners manager, but with a shortage of creative alternatives elsewhere then Arteta might wish he still had his compatriot available for selection.

Arsenal remains associated with moves for the Brighton pair of Ben White and Yves Bissouma, while our colleagues at football. london that they have also presented a bit for Anderlecht midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga.
