According to reports, Arsenal may have been given a setback in their pursuit of Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus, who has been offered to Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

After Erling Haaland joined Pep Guardiola’s team last month, the Brazilian was linked with a move away from the Etihad this summer.

Arsenal has been extensively linked with a move, but Mikel Arteta may be left sweating over the chase for the striker as both Real Madrid clubs are rumoured to be interested.

According to Cadena Ser journalist Anton Meana, the 25-year-old has been offered to both Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid, with the player seeking €5 million (£4.3 million) after tax every year.

The revelation comes as a shock to Arsenal, who were thought to have placed Jesus at the top of their summer want list after parting ways with both forwards Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette this year.

Arteta is said to have had a good working relationship with the 25-year-old during his stint as assistant manager at the Etihad, and both parties were interested in a deal.

Arsenal have previously started preliminary talks with his agent, Marcelo Pettinati, but are now worried about competition from LaLiga giants.

Following reports of interest from clubs in Spain and Italy, the North London club reportedly increased their salary offer to £190,000 per week plus bonuses in order to entice the striker.

The agreement will see him earn significantly more than his current weekly salary of £110,000 at Manchester City.

However, both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid can offer Jesus the allure of Champions League football, whilst Arsenal missed out on the top four, relegating them to the Europa League.

However, the Gunners might entice Jesus to join them by offering him a regular first-team berth as the primary striker, a role he has become accustomed to sharing under Guardiola.

Last season, Jesus appeared in 28 Premier League games for City, his lowest number in a full season since moving to Manchester for £28 million.
