Arsenal submit official bids for Man United transfer target while Ten Hag is “busy” with other deals
Arsenal has made an official offer for Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez, and they appear to be more interested than Manchester United.
According to Fabrizio Romano in the current edition of his upcoming CaughtOffside blog, the Italian transfer news analyst provides a fresh update on the Martinez issue amid plenty of talk concerning both Arsenal and Manchester United.
For the time being, the Red Devils’ attention is elsewhere, whilst Arsenal has made formal approaches for the Argentina international, who is highly regarded by manager Mikel Arteta.
It sounds promising for the Gunners, but Romano says there is still a chance Martinez would be willing to relocate to Old Trafford.
“These are two negotiations at different stages. Arsenal have already submitted official offers up to €40m plus add-ons for Martinez, while Manchester United are busy with Tyrell Malacia and Frenkie de Jong but have had contact with Lisandro’s agents,” Romano explains.
“The player is so far open to negotiate with both clubs. Arsenal are insisting a lot this week because Arteta is understood to be a big fan of Lisandro, considered a versatile player with top team skills.”

On the surface, it appears that United need this signing more than Arsenal, therefore it’s strange that they’re letting the Gunners go ahead of them.
Martinez appears to be a fantastic potential after impressing in the Eredivisie, and following Erik ten Hag to Manchester may be ideal for him to ease into life in the Premier League.
After the terrible form of players like Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof, as well as Raphael Varane, who was underwhelming and struggled to stay fit for much of last season, one imagines he’d stroll straight into the MUFC starting lineup.
Martinez would be competing for a central defensive spot at Arsenal with Ben White, Gabriel Magalhaes, and William Saliba, so it’s difficult to imagine him getting regular playing time.
It would undoubtedly give AFC fantastic depth at the back, but it would be awful of United to pass on this opportunity and instead enable one of their primary top four competitors to significantly increase their defensive options.
