Arsenal’s star Mohammed Elneny has more Twitter followers than both West Ham and Everton combined.

After joining Arsenal from FC Basel in the summer of 2016, the 28-year-old midfielder has built a cult following at the Emirates Stadium.

Elneny’s popularity in north London is eclipsed by his massive social media following, with 5.1 million followers on Twitter.

This is due in part to the large number of Egyptian users on the network who are keeping a close eye on his progress at Arsenal.

Compatriots Mohamed Salah and Aston Villa winger Trezeguet are also very popular online, with 16.1 million and 1.9 million followers, respectively.

The mind-boggling statistic was noticed by one fan on Twitter, who posted: “It’s funny to me that Mohamed Elneny has more twitter followers than West Ham and Everton combined. The guy is gargantuan.”

And, while that may be difficult to accept, the statistics speak for themselves.

The Hammers have a social media following of 2.2 million, and while relegation-threatened Everton have struggled for results this season, they’ve pushed ahead in the social media standings – only the traditional top six have larger followings than the Toffees.

Frank Lampard’s team has 2.8 million online fans, giving the two Premier League clubs a total of 5 million – 100,000 fewer than the Gunners’ anchor-man.

While Elneny is expected to leave at the end of the season when his contract expires, Mikel Arteta could be having second thoughts. Based on his web presence, a new partnership may pay for itself just in shirt sales.
