Arsenal played shock role in Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea sacking as fresh details emerge
The current Premier League season of 2022/23 has been very successful for Arsenal thus far.
While there is still a significant amount of time left in the season, at present, Arsenal is leading the league, with a two-point advantage over Manchester City, who is in second place.
Additionally, Arsenal has a game in hand over their rivals.
Since their first league match against Crystal Palace in August, which they won 2-0 at Selhurst Park, Mikel Arteta’s team has shown significant improvement.
Arsenal supporters had a feeling that this would be a fantastic season, based on the team’s impressive performances in the pre-season. A standout game from the summer was when the team won 4-0 against Chelsea in a dominant display in Orlando.
Naturally, pre-season is not the sole determining factor for a team’s performance, but the goals scored during Arsenal’s impressive showing in pre-season were enough to provoke a reaction from former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel.
“I think we deserved to lose – which is fair enough – because we were simply not good enough,” Tuchel said at full-time.
“We were absolutely not competitive. The worrying part is the level of commitment, physically and mentally, for this match was not the same, it was far higher for Arsenal than us.”
He added: “Unfortunately, it proved my point and the last week proves my point. I would prefer to not be right and I did everything to prove myself wrong, but at the moment I feel I was right when I look at the last season and at the parts of the game where we struggled and how we struggled.
“We got sanctioned and players left us, we know that some players are trying to leave us, and this is where it is. We had an urgent appeal for quality players and a huge amount of quality players. We’ve got two quality players – that is no doubt – but we are not competitive like this and unfortunately, we could see it today.”
According to The Telegraph, Tuchel’s comments regarding Arsenal’s pre-season performance did not go over well at Stamford Bridge.
Just a few months later, Tuchel was removed from his position as Chelsea’s manager and replaced by Graham Potter.
However, Potter has struggled since taking over, winning only nine out of 25 games in charge of the Blues.
As a result, the team is currently ranked tenth in the Premier League.
While concerns persist about Potter’s future with the club, it has been reported by football.london that he still has the backing of Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, and his job is not under immediate threat as of the time of writing.
