Arsenal ‘pick the chosen one’ as transfer target to succeed Alexandre Lacazette
According to reports, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has decided on a replacement for Alexandre Lacazette at the Emirates Stadium.
Lacazette is in the final nine months of his contract with Arsenal and could leave as early as January, leaving a void to fill in attack.
This season, the 30-year-old has played 51 minutes of Premier League football and made one start across all competitions.
He appears set to leave Arsenal within the next year and, despite playing only a minor role in 2021/22, will require a replacement.
This season, Arteta is relying on young attackers such as Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, and Martin Odegaard, who have all impressed.
According to Fichajes, Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic is Arteta’s ‘chosen one’ to succeed Lacazette.
Real Madrid are willing to let Jovic go in order to raise funds for their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland next summer.
After being limited to only 84 minutes of football this season, the 23-year-old wants to leave Los Blancos ‘as soon as possible.’
He is likely to want to move from being a fringe player under Carlo Ancelotti to being a key figure in Arteta’s plans.
Jovic rose to prominence in Germany as a 20-year-old, shining for Eintracht Frankfurt in the 2018/19 season.
He scored 27 goals in 48 games across all competitions, earning him a big move to Real Madrid the following summer.
However, in the Spanish capital, he has only scored twice in 32 appearances over three seasons.
He returned to Frankfurt on loan last season, scoring four goals in eight appearances, and now appears destined for the Bernabeu’s permanent exit door.
Arteta has insisted that anything can happen before the season’s end, but the signs are pointing to a quick exit.
He told reporters: “We discussed that [Lacazette’s contract] internally, and we discussed that with him.
“There’s a long season ahead of us – anything can happen, everything is open. He just needs to concentrate on performing and contributing to the team like he always does.
“He’s a phenomenal character. He’s somebody that is always pushing and has a real interest to help the team. That is not going to change – and after we will see what happens.”
