Arsenal may have a new reason to be worried about Manchester City’s chances in the title race ahead of their important match at the Emirates
Even though Arsenal currently sits at the top of the table, they should be cautious of Manchester City’s recent form in the Premier League.
The upcoming match between the two teams next week will be a critical moment in the competition for the title.
Arsenal have been performing well this season and currently have a solid lead in the standings, thanks to the effective investments and clear strategy implemented by manager Mikel Arteta.
Over the past year, the young players have made significant improvements, and the additions of new signings in the summer have elevated their game even further.
On the other hand, the defending champions Manchester City, who were considered the favorites for the title, have been struggling with their form and have not been living up to their expectations.
However, they may come out stronger in the second half of the season, fueled by recent allegations against the club.
The Premier League recently announced that it has completed a four-year investigation into Manchester City and found the club guilty of over 100 financial violations. The allegations have been referred to an independent commission for further examination.
This week, Pep Guardiola was questioned about the allegations, and he was quick to portray the Premier League as “us against them.”
He said: “Be careful in the future because many clubs make suggestions and we have been accused. I can have an opinion, but what do fans think? I don’t know. It is obvious the fans want to push us out of the competition. They believe we didn’t behave properly.
“I am not moving from this seat, I can assure you. I want to stay more than ever. After many, many years in the Premier League, I do not want to move on. Against 90 teams we are alone, that’s for sure. We have to beat Aston Villa, like always we have done it. 19 clubs are not going to help us.
“We won the Premier League last season on the pitch. Let us defend (the charges). If it happens, we will accept it. But like UEFA, we will defend.”
Pep Guardiola’s angry response during a press conference is likely to have an impact on his team, as the players will be aware that they are now under greater scrutiny.
This could lead to a sense of unity among the players, who will feel that they are all in this together.
Creating a “siege mentality” among the players may also improve their morale, regardless of their current form.
Arsenal is aware that it is only a matter of time before Manchester City’s performance improves, whether it is due to the allegations or simply because they have found their rhythm again.
However, they hope that this improvement will not come until after their match against City on Wednesday night.
