Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta agrees with Aaron Ramsdale in thanking Man Utd after Chelsea victory
Mikel Arteta has echoed Aaron Ramsdale’s recent comments regarding Manchester United following Arsenal’s 1-0 victory over Chelsea.
Gabriel scored the game’s lone goal, giving Arsenal their 11th win in 13 Premier League games and a return to the top of the standings.
Their lone league loss came against Manchester United in September, and since then, Arsenal has earned impressive victories against Tottenham, Liverpool, and now Chelsea.
Ramsdale stated last week that it was “good every now and then to be reminded of things” about United’s league setback.
And Arteta concurs with his starting goalkeeper, stating that it was a turning point for Arsenal. He stated, “We lacked discipline in that game.”
“I think we learned that lesson really well because we played really well but didn’t get the result.” Arsenal never appeared threatened throughout the match against Chelsea and Ramsdale had very little to do in goal.
This was partly thanks to the defensive efforts of Gabriel and William Saliba, who kept Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang quiet throughout the entirety of the match.
Thomas Partey was cleaning up the midfield while players like Kai Havertz and Ruben Loftus-Cheek were ineffective.
But it was in the attacking areas where Arsenal found far more success than expected.
Martin Odegaard and Granit Xhaka frequently had too much time to pivot and select a pass, as Arsenal’s attackers caused difficulties for Chelsea throughout.
Thiago Silva’s resolute defense for the home team was likely the only reason Chelsea remained in the game until the final whistle.
Arsenal’s goal was a matter of when, not if, but it occurred under fortunate circumstances following shoddy defence by Chelsea.
Gabriel scored from a yard away after the entire Chelsea box allowed a Bukayo Saka corner kick to pass through.
The home fans would have hoped that would motivate Chelsea, but the Blues never threatened to score an equalizer.
It was evident to all how much the victory meant to Arteta as he leaped on his coaching staff at the final whistle and then celebrated with his players in front of the away fans for several minutes following the game.
