Arsenal legend Thierry Henry names his top three Champions League strikers

Thierry Henry, a former Arsenal striker, has named his top three Champions League strikers.

During his playing career, the Frenchman scored 50 goals in the competition and won the trophy with Barcelona in 2009.

Henry, who is now a CBS pundit, was asked to rank his top three No.9s in order.

3. Robert Lewandowski

Bayern Munich’s talisman is the third most prolific scorer in Champions League history. However, because he has only won the competition once, he is not higher on the list.

Henry said: “I think he’s been doing it for a very long time, one of the best predators I have seen in the game but he won one Champions League. The guys that are ahead of him have won it multiple times.”

2. Karim Benzema

The Real Madrid striker is fourth in the Champions League all-time scoring list, trailing only Lewandowski, but he has won Europe’s top prize four times.

Henry said: “I think he is the most complete striker in the world, he can do everything at ease and has answered the call since Ronaldo left, he won the Champions League so many times and I think that’s good enough for number two.”

Manchester United’s star is the Champions League’s all-time leading scorer with 135 goals, and he has won the competition five times.

Henry said: “You have to give this guy a lot of credit, why? Because simply what he has done with the national team, what he’s doing right now for United.

“What he has been doing for Juve, Real Madrid and United before, it is second to none if we’re talking about a No.9, you have to give him his respect.”
