Arsenal have discovered a permanent replacement for Mohamed Elneny amid two late deadline day pursuits

Arsenal is interested in adding a midfielder on the transfer deadline due to Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey’s injury.

However, they have already found an Egyptian substitute in Albert Sambi Lokonga.

Wednesday’s 2-1 victory over Aston Villa was led by Arsenal’s Sambi Lokonga.

He was tasked with playing as the deeper-lying midfielder, a position in which he did not always flourish during his first season at the Emirates.

Arsenal must yet acquire a midfielder.

Due to Elneny’s impending absence and Partey’s recurrence of a thigh injury, there is a shortage of depth ahead of a packed schedule of games.

Douglas Luiz of Villa has emerged as a late target for the Gunners following his goal off a corner kick at the Emirates Stadium last night.

Arsenal is also interested in Palmeiras star Danilo, although a January transfer seems more plausible.

After the Villa victory, Mikel Arteta acknowledged that the club is deficient in the midfield position and expressed a desire for reinforcements.

However, Sambi Lokonga’s performance will have helped calm the Spaniard’s nerves.

The Belgian was pressed into action sooner than most would have anticipated after his arrival from Anderlecht in the summer of 2017.

In order to secure regular first-team involvement, he has been linked to a transfer away from the club.

However, his first start of this season demonstrated that he has what it takes to be Elneny’s long-term replacement.

Elneny was slated to leave Arsenal at the conclusion of his contract last season.

However, a successful finish to the season in Partey’s absence resulted in a one-year contract extension.

However, at the age of 30, he is unlikely to play a significant role in Arteta’s future plans.

Elneny has never been a regular starter since coming in January 2016 from Basel, but he has been a dependable backup. In the upcoming years, Sambi Lokonga could assume this position.

This does not preclude him from becoming a first-team regular. However, Arteta’s interest in more seasoned players such as Luiz suggests that he does not believe the 22-year-old is quite ready for his best starting XI.
