Arsenal have 4 stars Wolves might accept in Pedro Neto swap deal transfer

Arsenal have made a strong start to the new Premier League season, but Mikel Arteta will continue to look for ways to strengthen his squad.

With just over a week until the transfer deadline on August 31, the Gunners are reportedly considering a move for Wolves star Pedro Neto.

The Portuguese winger had emerged as one of the best young attackers in the Premier League before suffering a knee injury that forced him to miss the majority of the 2021-22 season.

But the 22-year-old is back fit and firing for Wolves, despite a 1-0 loss to Tottenham on Saturday, and Arsenal’s interest remains strong.

It will be difficult to persuade Wolves to sell their prized asset, who is thought to be valued at around £70 million by his club.

Arteta has already spent £120 million on new signings, so the north London club may need to be creative in cutting costs — which could include offering players in exchange.

SportsDias looks at four players who could fit the mould and help Arsenal save money by moving to Molineux.

Rob Holding

Wolves have already strengthened their defensive line this summer with the £20 million signing of Nathan Collins from Burnley.

The addition of Holding, however, may allow the midlands club to move on from Willy Boly, who is currently out of favour.

The club is willing to sell Boly, who has been linked with a move to Nottingham Forest. In order to find a replacement, Lage has been linked with a £25 million move for Braga’s David Carmo.

However, spending money on another player with no Premier League experience could be seen as a risk.

Holding, on the other hand, has proven to be a reliable deputy, appearing in 60 games over the last two seasons. If he can avoid injury, the 26-year-old would be an excellent addition to the squad.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles

It’s hard to believe that only two years ago, Maitland-Niles was knocking on England’s door with five international caps under his belt.

However, after two seasons on loan, Maitland-Niles may consider leaving the Emirates for good.

He turns 25 at the end of August, but there doesn’t appear to be any room for the utility man in Arteta’s newly-formed squad after loan spells with West Brom and Roma in the previous two years.

Right-back is an area where Lage has depth, thanks to Jonny and Nelson Semedo. When the games start piling up, Maitland-Niles’ versatility – he can also play as a central midfielder – can come in handy.

Hector Bellerin

With only eight days left in the transfer window, Bellerin’s future at the Emirates looks increasingly bleak, and time is running out for the Spaniard to leave.

The 27-year-old was desperate to return to Spain with Real Betis after a successful loan spell, but the La Liga club has financial problems and is unable to sign new players due to the league’s strict salary restrictions.

Other potential destinations, including Barcelona and Udinese, have fallen through, leaving the former Spain international in the cold.

Lage could do a lot worse than offer Bellerin a loan move if Wolves were looking to add some pace and experience — Bellerin has over 180 Premier League appearances to his name.

Reiss Nelson

Selling Neto would make room in Wolves’ squad for a winger, and Nelson is itching for more game time.

Despite looking like a promising talent under Unai Emery, the 22-year-old has barely played since Arteta took over the club in December 2019.

A loan move to Feyenoord did not result in a permanent move, and he is unlikely to break into the Gunners’ first team anytime soon, with Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, and Pepe all ahead of him in the pecking order.

Goncalo Guedes has joined Adama Traore and Daniel Podence in competing for a starting spot in the attacking areas after joining from Valencia. However, another loan in the Premier League could help Nelson demonstrate his ability to carve out a future for himself at Arsenal.
