Arsenal handed hell title run-in scenario amid Frank Lampard’s Chelsea return

This season’s Premier League title race is currently in Arsenal’s hands, with just nine games remaining. The Gunners are eight points ahead of Manchester City, having played one more game entering the final stretch.

Should Pep Guardiola win that game in hand, the gap will be reduced to five points, and a head-to-head victory in the future will narrow the gap to one game. It’s a lot of speculation, but the reality that Arsenal fans are predicting is that they will need to maintain that gap.

The likes of Liverpool, Newcastle, and Chelsea still have games to play, so any additional dropped points could throw a wrench into the title race.

After last weekend’s victory over Leeds, Mikel Arteta stated, ” “What we can control is what we can do,” emphasizing the importance of taking games one at a time.

“We’ve been discussing that for the past few days. After the international break there was a lot of tricky situations to manage with a few players. There’s always a question about how the players will react after that. I think they were exceptional, they were really at it, everybody wanted to be involved and we won the game in a convincing way which is good and the only thing that we can control.”

This type of message helps keep things in perspective and prevents future events from spiraling out of control. There are, however, few who would dispute that any change prior to the games could present Arteta and his team with additional challenges.

One of which has reached London, as Chelsea’s rivals have fired Graham Potter and, according to reports, are planning to hire Frank Lampard as interim coach for the remainder of the season. The Gunners could be faced with a nightmare scenario if the former England international is able to inspire a response from his team.

This scenario is one in which Lampard is able to defeat the north London club in a crucial match that could decide the championship. Many will be hoping that is not the case, especially given the London derby ties in addition to the title stakes.
