Arsenal given a go-ahead to complete £60m James Maddison transfer but on one condition.

Brendan Rodgers has now sketched the scenario that could see Arsenal seal a move for James Maddison in this summer’s transfer window.

According to information by football.london, Gunners are contemplating a move for the Leicester City midfielder after missing out on a chance for Emiliano Buendia and with Martin Odegaard inclined to stay at Real Madrid.

But whilst Mikel Arteta is an enthusiast of Maddison and the 24-year-old is ‘at the top of the list’ for Arsenal in the summer transfer window, there’s one major sticking point.

The Foxes are likely to ask over £60m for the playmaker, who only signed a new long-term deal at the King Power Stadium less than a year ago.

With that stated, records shows that Leicester will sell their lead players if the price is right.

Two summers ago Harry Maguire made his £80m move to Manchester United and then last summer Ben Chilwell signed for Chelsea in a £50m deal.

This could give Arsenal some reassurance with interests to making it a hat-trick of Leicester players to join one of the traditional ‘top-six clubs in consecutive summer transfer windows.

However, as previously explained by Foxes boss Rodgers, players will only be allowed to leave the King Power if they are not full-committed to the ongoing project.

“First and foremost, it’s about finding a level of commitment with any player,” Rodgers said last year. “If a player doesn’t want to be here, with all due respect, we don’t want them here.

“It’s as simple as that. Any club is the same, if you have a player that doesn’t actually want to be at the club, then you won’t want them at your club. But there is a wonderful environment we create here for players to improve and develop.”

There has been no suggestion that Maddison will push for a move to Arsenal, whilst Rodgers said after the final game of the 2020/21 Premier League season that he wasn’t considering about losing another big-name player.

“It’s not something I’m thinking about now,” he said. “We’ll see what the summer brings.

“We want to bring in players that can improve the squad, we’ll see what evolves over the course of the summer and if there are bids for players or what not.

“It’s not something I’ve considered too much, to be honest.”
