Arsenal find ideal William Saliba partner as defender target has ‘good chance’ of free transfer
As the January transfer window approaches, numerous clubs are preparing for the upheaval it will bring as well as the chance to strengthen for the remainder of the season.
This might be a critical point in Arsenal’s season, allowing them to bolster their team for a potential title drive.
There are a few spots that may be improved, with the lack of alternatives to Bukayo Saka on the right being a significant concern.
Mikel Arteta also attempted to reinforce the midfield by attempting a failed transfer for Douglas Luiz on the transfer deadline.
There is also the possibility of bolstering the defense; however, the outlook for January is vastly different from that of the summer, as the necessity to reinforce in the middle of the season increases transfer fees and the desperation for movements could lead to unwise decisions.
It has resulted in Arsenal missing out on opportunities in the past, maybe in exchange for short-term suffering in pursuit of long-term success.
“We had a clear plan of what we can do but then it has to be doable,” Arteta said last January on a lack of signings.
“Edu and his team have done a great job. We are very clear we only want the best people and the best players at this club. When we are in a rush and the reasons to get a player on board are not the right ones we didn’t do it.”
This could be the case again this winter, with the Gunners manager only aiming to reinforce with the right players at the right price, with some transfer targets waiting until the summer to make a move.
Evan Ndicka, a defender for Eintracht Frankfurt, could be one of them.
The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium after impressing in Germany and being able to play left-back with a better left foot.
This is crucial for a system like Arteta’s, as a left-footed defender can produce greater passing angles than a right-footed defender on the same side.
It might allow Ndicka to join the club and serve as the ideal partner for William Saliba, who has been the team’s starting right central defender since his comeback.
Fabrizio Romano of CaughtOffside writes that the defender has a “strong possibility” of leaving Frankfurt on a free transfer when his contract ends next summer.
It might be a deal that nets the Arsenal a steal for a player of his caliber and ability at that position.
