Arsenal fans anger as Aston Villa agrees £35m transfer for Arteta’s target Emi Buendia.
Aston Villa seems to have won the race to sign Emiliano Buendia from Norwich City.
Buendia has been massively associated with a move to Villa Park this summer and was first considered as a transfer target for Dean Smith’s side last year.
In April it was alleged that Smith had made the 24-year-old his top summer transfer priority as Villa look to reinforce their squad after an 11th-placed finish in the Premier League last season.
Buendia notched 15 times and registered 17 assists last season as Norwich walked to a second Championship title in three years.
The Argentine had a hand in eight of the Canaries’ 26 goals in the Premier League in 2019-20, confirming he is a proficient operator in the top flight of English football.
Buendia is precisely the type of player Smith and sporting director Johan Lange want to sign given he will be capable to slot straight into the team and will not need any time to adjust to the pace of the game in England.
Multiple outlets, including the Mirror, are publishing that a fee has been agreed between Villa and Norwich, with the player allowing to move to the Second City despite reported interest from Arsenal and clubs overseas, and the Mirror claims the amount is £35 million.

Arsenal were linked with a move for Buendia in January and Mikel Arteta’s side seemed set to give Villa a real go for the player’s signature this summer.
However, the transfer looks to have been winded up quickly by Villa leaving Arsenal supporters questioning what might have been.
One fan said on social media:
“Shambles. We better have a big deal lined up. Pathetic start to the transfer window, that.”
“So much for being ‘ruthless’ in the summer transfer window,” another added while a third supporter said: “Extremely disappointing to miss out on Buendia after a year of links.”
“Buendia was the most accessible and affordable instant-impact player in a problem area for the team and Arsenal blew it,” another said.
A fifth fan added: “Absolutely gutting.”
